What one lot really costs
Spread and commission are both costs. As an illustration on one lot of EURUSD, where one pip is worth $10:
Standard: a 1.0 pip spread costs about $10, with no commission.
Raw Spread: a 0.1 pip spread costs about $1, plus up to $3.50 commission on each side ($7 round trip), so about $8 in total.
If you trade often or scalp gold, the Raw account usually works out cheaper. If you place a few trades a week, Standard is simpler. Spreads widen around news and at the daily rollover on every account type.
